True to its corporate social responsibility goal, Holcim Philippines Inc. donated over 3,000 doses of Moderna Covid-19 vaccines to one of the top hospitals in La Union, in support of the province’s initiatives to reach far-flung communities or individuals incapable of traveling to government vaccination centers to further contain Covid infection and mortality rates among high risk individuals like the senior citizens, children, and indigents.
These can be used as booster for 6,000 people or as two full doses for 1,500 individuals by the Lorma Medical Center in the town of San Fernando.
“We are thankful to the Lorma Medical Center for being our partner in providing vaccines to our neighbors in La Union,” said Cara Ramirez, vice president and head of communications and corporate social responsibility (CSR) at Holcim Philippines.
“We are hopeful that this donation will further strengthen the province’s resilience against the disease as we enter summer and tourism once again booms. While the pandemic appears to be easing, we need to remain vigilant and encourage everyone to avail themselves of the vaccines to be more protected,” she added.
On their part, Lorma Medical Center President and Administrator Robert F. Kaiser Jr. was thankful to the building solutions provider’s benevolence. He said: “We express our gratitude to Holcim Philippines for its generous donation of Moderna vaccines.”
Last month, an initial batch of Covid-19 jabs were administered as primary and booster doses to adults and children in support of Department of Education’s move for the return of face-to-face learning in August.
“These were shared with four elementary schools in San Fernando, La Union on April 22 and a school in Naguilian, La Union on April 27,” noted the top executive.
“These will also be used as the second booster for Lorma Medical Center Health Care Workers. Senior citizens and residents of La Union above 18 and with comorbidities will also be invited at the Lorma Vaccination Center as recipients of these vaccines,” he added.
Kaiser Jr. lauded the cement manufacturer, citing that because of its donation, the health-care institution has accelerated its inoculation drive and “will continue working towards herd immunity by adding to the 80- percent vaccination rate in La Union.”
“You truly make the difference through this donation, a very notable social corporate responsibility endeavor, and we are extremely grateful.”
Holcim HELPS, the firm’s CSR campaign, already benefited 196,000 individuals nationwide in 2021, including close to 20,000 people in La Union where the company operates a cement plant.
The donation comes after Holcim Philippines’ successful inoculation campaign that resulted to the vaccination of all qualified employees of the company and some local governments last year.
