The Philippine Coast Guard reported on Monday that at least 2,973 people, including passengers, drivers and cargo helpers remained stranded in various ports in Bicol and in the Visayas and Mindanao due to Storm Agaton.
Based on the monitoring of the Coast Guard as released by its spokesman, Commodore Armand Balilo, at least 29 vessels and a motor banca were stranded in ports in Bicol, Eastern Visayas, North Eastern Mindanao,Central Visayas and Western Visayas.
Balilo said another 76 vessels and four motorbancas were also taking shelters in ports located in the same regions.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said that Agaton whipped the Visayas and Mindanao with strong rains, triggering flooding in CARAGA and BARMM.
Incidents of landslides also occurred in Regions 10 and 11 and in CARAGA.
As of Sunday, the NDRRMC reported that Agaton affected 38, 399 families or 45, 588 individuals in 106 barangays in the Visayas, especially in CARAGA and BARMM.
At least 42 houses have so far been damaged or destroyed in Region 10 while an initial 230 hectares of agricultural crops were also damaged in BARMM.
The NDRRMC said one individual died from the storm while two others were. Another individual was also missing.
