REIGNING champion Ateneo goes for a sweep of the first round of eliminations against University of Santo Tomas (UST) at the resumption on Saturday of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 84 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The match is set at 4 p.m. with Ateneo coach Tab Baldwin showing more concern against the Growling Tigers over the University of the East Red Warriors who gave them some scare only to fold up big time when it mattered most.
“All that sort of stuff, it kind of doesn’t move the needle too much for us,” said Baldwin, whose team allowed UE to threaten in the third quarter before getting loose for a 94-72 rout, the Blue Eagles’ sixth straight win in the pandemic season.
“We know UST can have a good day and they can cause us problems,” said Baldwin of the Growling Tigers who’re currently 2-4 won-lost, their last setback a 51-82 blowout to the National University Bulldogs last Wednesday.
NU (3-3) meets winless UE (0-6) at 10 a.m., De La Salle (4-2) faces Adamson University (1-5) at 1 p.m. and Far Eastern University (3-3) meets University of the Philippines (5-1) at 7 p.m. in the other games.
