Although he seemed to have suddenly appeared in the music scene with his breakthrough song “Empty House”, Abe Parker is no newcomer to the music scene. Having written and produced for the likes of Marc E Bassy, David Kushner, Lecrae, Crowder, Social Club Misfits and Jaylon Ashaun, he already had quite the repertoire. However, his new single, “Butterflies” marks the first time that the Atlanta-based singer-songwriter takes on the role of the artist.
As a hopeful piano ballad, “Butterflies” first made its way onto Tiktok as an unfinished verse. Surprisingly, it became a smash hit on the platform, reaching 26 thousand creates, the majority of which came from Southeast Asia.
“This whole song was a total shock for me. I wrote a verse and posted it on TikTok. Honestly, I didn’t think it would go anywhere until two weeks later when I noticed that 10 thousand people had made a video to the audio and it was not even finished! The next three days were a blur, but somehow I managed to write, track, produce, mix and remix the song until it was done. It was a little insane. My team really bent over backwards to make it work as well!” Abe shared.
Though he has been well known in producing other artists, Abe revealed that producing was actually a side hustle in his artistic journey.
“I think wanting to do my own music has always been the thing, all of the stuff with other artists, it just kinda happens. It’s been awesome to help other artists and all that stuff, but at the same time, I am doing the same thing,” he added.
Drawing inspiration from his own life and his faith, Abe started his music career writing positive, happy pop songs. However, he revealed that he recently began to shift towards sadder, more serious subjects drawing from what he describes as “past hurts.” This, he further explained, is his way of helping people cope with life.
“The thing I am so excited about is that even though the songs are sad, I can help people even more. That’s what I really want to be able to do, to just give people a way to express something they were not sure about or they didn’t know how to think about it,”
With lyrics like “Am I the only one that’s catchin’ butterflies? Am I moth in your flame? Do you burn the same when I look in your eyes…?” “Butterflies” has resonated well with music fans. Since its release last January, the song’s lyric video has earned over 2.1 million views while the subsequent music video currently has over 328,000 views.
As a result, more encouraging songs are now expected from Abe, who revealed that he will be dropping many more singles during the summer.
“I just want to be able to share my emotions with as many people as possible. The ultimate goal is for people to say; ‘I always felt this way, but I never knew how to explain it, but after listening to this song, I kind of know now,’” he concludes.
Abe Parker’s “Butterflies” is now available on all major streaming platforms.
