Senator Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson welcomed the conduct of more presidential debates, which he said will help voters weed out deserving candidates from those who are unqualified.
The lawmaker said the debates will allow the public to discern candidates what goes in the minds of candidates, competence and their character.
Lacson said he hopes the presidential debate organized by the Commission on Election (Comelec) at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila in Pasay City on March 19 will give him the chance to show his qualifications to voters and boost his standing in election surveys.
All of the 10 presidential candidates, except Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr., attended the event.
During the first round of the Comelec debate series, presidential bets were asked about the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and the economy.
Unlike in the other presidential debates, Comelec provided the broad topics to the candidates in advance.
Lacson lauded Comelec for doing so since it helped him in preparing for the debate.
He said he is ready to square off with his presidential candidates using data and facts.
“I am consistent in using facts. I always fact check. I am driven by data. If there is any change it is just an update, but it is still the basics,” Lacson told reporters upon his arrival in Sofitel.
