A NEW show on GMA, The Best Ka! is being promoted as an information entertainment program that will highlight Guinness world record-holders from all over the planet. Tasked to handle the hosting chores is the gorgeous Mikael Daez, a loyal contract artist of the network.
“For the pilot episode, we needed to hype the show, so the program executives thought it best that my wife Megan and I would be the hype,” he burst out in laughter then continued, “Seriously, it has been a long time since we both hosted a show together, so it was a double blessing for me that in my first solo hosting job on GMA, my wife also came in as my cohost.”
Mrs. Daez is also very excited for her husband. “Mikael has been quietly hoping to be assigned a show where he can further hone his hosting and communication skills, and we are thankful that GMA thought of giving him this break.”
Now based in Subic, the couple feels that they made the right move. “Life is so much more stress-free where we live now. It has been a couple of months and I can truly say that Megan and I are both enjoying this new environment. Also, the air is cleaner, the beaches are nearer, and we have access to almost anything that we were used to in the big city.”
Daez shared that they live in an old house, and they will slowly renovate, part by part, if needed.
“Right now, we are enjoying the peace and quiet, the many wonderful discoveries of living in the province. Subic is now our home and we enjoy the long drives to and from Manila if there is work, like this new show, and other important things to attend to.” The 34-year-old Daez admitted that being entrusted to host a program all by himself has been a dream he secretly wished for. And he also opened up about a mentor he held so dearly who planted the seeds for him to know the foundations of hosting. “The late, great director Freddie Santos was the one who trained me. He was the first one to give me a hosting workshop, laying down all the things I needed to know about hosting and how to value and constantly improve this skill.” Santos, considered a theater luminary, passed on in 2020 after battling a lingering illness.
Daez added that his hosting will not be the usual “intro the video clip” type that we often see on television. “It will definitely be more dynamic and the segments will be concept driven. We will not only feature out-of-this-world feats and records. We will also be injecting gags and entertaining sketches to the program.”
For the coming episodes, Daez excitedly shared that travel will be an essential part of his hosting job. “I have expressed to the program managers my willingness to travel, to go out of the box, and I am so open to discover more about places I haven’t been to.”
Describing himself as a “more open person” especially now that he is married, Daez constantly reminds himself to embrace more of life’s adventures. “Sometimes, all we need to do is simply go with the flow, to just allow ourselves to experience new adventures, and to be grateful for these adventures and opportunities that open up in our lives.”
These are exciting times indeed for the very gifted Mikael Daez.
