Residents of BF Tourist Homeowners Association Inc. (BF THAI) in Barangay BF International, Las Piñas on Saturday took the opportunity to get their vaccines and booster doses of Moderna and Pfizer right in their community center.
The community vaccination drive was initiated by BF THAI President Jay Javier with the support of the village’s board members, officers and administration and security personnel.
It was conducted by the Calamba Doctors’ Hospital and its vaccination team, led by its president & CEO, Dr. Domingo Amistad.
Over 400 people, 12 and above, availed of mostly Pfizer and Moderna 1st, 2nd and booster doses.
The vaccines were offered free of cost to BF THAI homeowners and those in their “family nucleus” who live outside BF THAI.
“We assume that these are the family members which the resident frequently sees, or regularly visits, and therefore constitutes a ‘family nucleus’. These are the types of visits which are discouraged especially, if someone vulnerable and with comorbidities is involved, but we know it happens anyway. If vaccination affords protection for our residents (from severe/critical symptoms), we may as well expand the program to include the residents’ immediate family nucleus, even if not living in BFTHAI,” the BF Thai association said in a statement.
The vaccine drive was also extended to “transient” people in the village, including construction workers in ongoing projects within the village, kasambahays, guards, maintenance personnel and even regular vendors in the village.
Shown in photo is 86-year-old Remedios Cruz, receiving her Moderna booster shot from a vaccination team member of Calamba Doctors’ Hospital.
Mrs. Cruz commended the efforts of the CDH health workers and BF Thai club officers and volunteers in the community vaccination activity, particularly in keeping the queues orderly and for the assistance they provided to senior citizens like her.
She said these private sector-led community vaccination activities contribute greatly to our nation’s recovery, as people can save on transportation expenses and be spared the hassles and dangers of going to crowded government vaccination centers, where they have to line up for hours.
Instead of traveling to the city’s main vaccination centers, they can get inoculated right in their own villages, through the commendable efforts of their community leaders.
