Opposition coalition 1Sambayan on Wednesday named its seven senatorial aspirants for the May 2022 national elections.
In an online press conference, 1Sambayan convenor Atty. Howard Calleja said senatorial aspirants who will get the support of 1Sambayan in May elections, include former Ifugao Rep. Teddy Baguilat, Sen. Leila de Lima, human rights lawyer Chel Diokno, Senator Risa Hontiveros, Atty. Alex Lacson, Federation of Free Workers president Sonny Matula and former Sen. Antonio Trillanes.
These candidates are also the senatorial lineup of the tandem of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Francis Pangilinan.
However, the tandem’s other senatorial candidates namely former Vice President Jejomar Binay, former Senator Chiz Escudero, and Senators Richard Gordon, Joel Villanueva, and Migz Zubiri are not included in the list.
According to Calleja, the coalitions’ list may still expand as it will officially announce its slate on January 28.
In October, 1Sambayan, a pro-democracy, coalition announced its unconditional support for the Robredo and Pangilinan tandem.
“For now, I can safely say we have seven senators endorsed by 1Sambayan. We are still open for others but for the 28th, we will declare those seven in our senatorial line-up together with VP Leni and Sen. Kiko,” Calleja said.
He said the January 28 event will be attended by celebrities and artists or “kakampinks” who volunteered to endorse and support Robredo and Pangilinan.
