CEMEX Philippines continues to help Build the Nation after it converted its covered court gyms — Solid Cement Gym in Antipolo City, Rizal and APO Cement Gym in the City of Naga, Cebu — into vaccination facilities to help bolster each city’s existing vaccination efforts.
The revamping of CEMEX gyms into vaccination sites was made possible by the partnership among the local government units (LGUs) of Antipolo City and the City of Naga, Cebu, with CEMEX Philippines and CEMEX Philippines Foundation, Inc.
In Naga City, Cebu, more than 12,000 Nagahanons have been vaccinated in the APO Gym since it opened as a vaccination site. Community members are not only vaccinated but also educated on what to expect and what to do after vaccination. The Naga LGU inoculates an average of 700 people per day during its first month of operations.
In Antipolo City, the Solid Cement Gym was opened as an additional vaccination center for Rizaleños and has inoculated more than 8,000 community residents with an average of 250 shots administered per day. This vaccination facility is manned by volunteer medical teams and staff from the City of Antipolo to address the needs of the community.
Both Solid Cement Gym and APO Gym continue to be operational, supporting local governments’ vaccination efforts, including the administration of booster shots as authorized by the Department of Health.
“This partnership with the LGUs is a great opportunity to fast-track the recovery efforts of the country by protecting everyone in our communities,” says CEMEX Holdings Philippines President & CEO Ignacio Mijares. “This is an example of a best practice between government and the private sector working together to help achieve population protection,” Mijares added.
