NEWLY installed Army Commanding General Major General Romeo Brawner Jr. underscored the need to further equip and train their skills along with the prudent use of the organization’s resources.
Brawner became the Army chief last Friday, succeeding the now-Armed Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Andres Centino. During his first command conference, the officer said there is a need to enhance soldiers’ knowledge and skills so that they can do their task and duties well.
He said the 100,000-strong organization’s resources should also be pushed down to Army units in the field.
Brawner said that with well-equipped and competent soldiers given the right resources, the Army should deliver victory against threat groups while ensuring a “fair, credible and peaceful 2022 elections.”
As part of ensuring the readiness and maintaining the physical health of Army troopers, Brawner said the command will resume next year the conduct of physical fitness tests while underscoring the importance of implementing a concrete program for the mental health and well-being of soldiers.
In the campaign against threat groups, Brawner ordered intelligence units to step up their operations and capabilities in support of intelligence-driven operations.
He vowed to push down all needed resources to all Army units, assuring that the command will ensure that financial resources will be spent judiciously and responsibly.
“If we will pursue these thrusts, we will be victorious against our enemies. We will be able to hit our target to eradicate insurgency by June 2022,” Brawner said. “It’s an ambitious target but let us do our best.”
The Army chief also underscored the need to pursue the Army Transformation Roadmap that will transform the organization into a modern army while emphasizing the need for every soldier to come up with a scorecard.
Brawner said that the Army would also recruit quality reservists who would effectively complement regular troops.
