PHL logs 14,249 new Covid infections on Saturday

The Philippines reached a grim milestone on Saturday after the Covid-19 death toll in the country reached the 30,000 mark, while 14,249 additional infections were also logged, bringing the total number of cases to 1, 727,231.

THE Philippines reached a grim milestone on Saturday after the Covid-19 death toll in the country reached the 30,000 mark, while 14,249 additional infections were also logged, bringing the total number of cases to 1, 727,231.

As of 4 p.m. of August 14, the Department of Health (DOH) reported there were also 11,714 recoveries and 233 deaths recorded.

Of the total number of infections, 5.7 percent (98,847) are active, 92.5 percent (1,598,314) have recovered, and 1.74 percent (30,070) have died.

The DOH said that 320 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 313 are recoveries and 1 is a death. Moreover, 14 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases and 142 cases earlier tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

All laboratories were operational on August 12, 2021, but four laboratories were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System. Based on data in the last 14 days, the 4 non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 3.4 percent of samples tested and 2.8 percent of positive individuals.
