Picking up where they left off with their last single, “Bituin,” 46 Hope St. once again returns with another compelling new single in “Bago Matulog” for Widescope Entertainment.
While “Bituin” is a captivating piano-based ballad about finding light amid the darkness brought about by the ongoing pandemic. “Bago Matulog” was inspired by the newfound hope of being able to look forward to a new morning after experiencing the darkest of dawns, trusting that there’s a perfect time for everything and that we are not alone in the journey.
The alternative pop-rock trio, composed of Meds Rana on vocals and guitars, Ryan Gonzales on bass and Aaron Dolleton on drums, earlier shared that “Bituin” was conceived from a place of deep loneliness and fear in isolation. “Bago Matulog” on the other hand came from a more reassuring place.
In the first stanza alone where Meds sings “Bukas pag gising mo, maniwala kang muli, matutupad ang yong mga pangarap, wag kang papatalo, sa suntok ng bagyo, merong naniniwala sa’yo…” encourages listeners to find the strength in overcoming adversity while re-assuring them that they are never alone in their predicament.
As the rest of the guitar-driven slow number further underscores the presence of a “kakampi” or someone who always has our backs, “Bago Matulog” also drives home the point that all setbacks are temporary and that every storm eventually passes in line like “Kung di umaayon, ang nangyayari ngayon, alalahanin ang biyaya ng kahapon, bahain man ang mundo, hindi papalunod, walang bagyong hindi natatapos…”
If the song’s lush production value is largely reminiscent of the classic tunes of Ebe Dancel, it’s because the former Sugarfree frontman and acclaimed singer-songwriter is instrumental in bringing 46 Hope St. to Widescope. As the label’s Artist & Repertoire Manager, Ebe is heavily devoted in the band which he himself considers as a “personal crusade.”
As Meds, Ryan and Aaron continue to find their audience amid the ongoing health crisis to which is finally beginning to show some hope of returning to normalcy with the availability of several vaccines, 46 Hope St. is not yet through releasing new music for 2021. We should be hearing from this talented trio again soon.
