DE La Salle University (DLSU) has named as its 24th president Br. Bernard Oca FSC, EdD, as he is set to assume office on August 1.
DLSU Board of Trustees Chair Nestor V. Tan made the announcement in a message to the Lasallian community. The board elected “Br. Bernie” following the search for a new president, with participation from the university’s multisectoral representatives.
Prior to his appointment, Br. Bernie has been DLSU’s chancellor since 2018.
A Lasallian through and through, the new president finished his grade school at De La Salle Taft, his high school at La Salle Green Hills, and his Bachelor of Arts in Literature, Master’s degree in Languages and Literature, and Doctor of Education in Religious and Values Education from DLSU.
He entered the postulancy in 1971, took the habit of the Brothers in 1974, and his final vows at La Salle Green Hills in 1980.
Br. Bernie was the former vice chancellor for Lasallian Mission and Alumni Relations of DLSU, and a founding brother of the Jaime Hilario Integrated School-La Salle in Bagac, Bataan.
He concurrently serves as president of DLS Santiago Zobel School, Jaime Hilario Integrated School-La Salle in Bagac, Bataan, and DLS Araneta University.
