The Department of Health (DOH) is considering a travel ban on travelers from Malaysia and Thailand amid the threat of the highly contagious Covid-19 Delta variant.
“These areas (Malaysia and Thailand) have been observed to have uncontrolled surge in Delta variant cases,” Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III said during an interview with PTV-4 on Thursday.
“Our Epidemiology Bureau is coordinating with their counterparts so that we will know if it is already necessary to expand the travel ban,” he added.
The country imposed travel restrictions covering India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Indonesia due to the outbreak of the Delta Variant in said countries.
“We hope the Delta variant will not enter the country, but experts said this is inevitable we are preparing for it,” Harry Roque, the president’s spokesman, said during an ambush interview at an event in Tarlac on Thursday.
