THE Department of Health (DOH) headquarters in Manila has ordered its regional office in Davao City to explain how former Defense Secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro, a resident of Tarlac, managed to have himself inoculated with the Covid-19 vaccine in Davao City.
“We [have already] coordinated with the [DOH] regional office, [they will explain to us how it happened],” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in an online forum on Friday.
Vergeire, however, expressed confidence that their regional office in Davao is following the vaccination protocols.
On June 3, Teodoro, described by former Camarines Sur Rep. Rolando Andaya as a person with a comorbodity, was inoculated with a Sinovac vaccine. Andaya said Teodoro’s inoculation was administered during his visit to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte – an unplanned event that reportedly happened when someone with a slot did not show up and the vaccine was offered to someone qualified in order not to spoil it.
Andaya also said that Teodoro would go back to Davao for his second dose.
Covid cases
Meanwhile, the DOH logged 7,450 additional Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections to 1,255,337.
There were also 2,382 recoveries and 181 deaths.
Of the total number of cases, 4.8 percent (60,794) are active, 93.4 percent (1,173,006) have recovered, and 1.72 percent (21,537) died.
Twelve duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, nine are recoveries and three others were deatsh.
Moreover, 119 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
All laboratories were operational on June 2, 2021 but five failed to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.
Based on data in the last 14 days, the five non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 2.0 percent of samples tested and 2.7 percent of positive individuals.
