AMBASSADOR-designate of the Republic of Kazakhstan Daniyar Sarekenov paid a virtual courtesy call on Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teodoro L. Locsin Jr. early in April, as both sides reaffirmed their governments’ commitment to further strengthening overall ties, both in bilateral cooperation and mutual support in international bodies.
Locsin expressed appreciation for Kazakhstan’s support to the Philippines in United Nations discussions. The secretary also took the occasion to congratulate the former for its current chairmanship in the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, and welcomed opportunities for greater interaction with Kazakhstan as an important partner of the Philippines in the Central Asian region.
Meanwhile, Sarekenov underscored the Philippines’s integral role in the security architecture of Asia, and conveyed his country’s interest in further enhancing economic cooperation.
Both countries established diplomatic relations on March 19, 1992 and are slated to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their bilateral ties next year. Sarekenov, who is currently based in Jakarta, is also the concurrent ambassador of Kazakhstan to Indonesia and Asean.
