RANRAN ABDILLA played true to form in last week’s beach volleyball tryouts in Subic to earn the admiration of Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) officials.
PNVF beach volleyball commission chair Charo Soriano, also Creamline’s program director for the event, was delighted to see the 6-foot-2 Abdilla back and perform well during the tryouts.
“Ranran’s athletic prowess and court maturity will definitely elevate the roster of Creamline Beach,” Soriano said. “His teammates will greatly benefit from Ranran’s experience as he shares his experience to the youngsters.”
Abdilla last played beach volleyball in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 1-Star Boracay Open in May 2019 where he was paired with Air Force teammate Jessie Lopez. His partnership with Lopez led to four consecutive Beach Volleyball Republic On Tour leg championships.
“I was excited the night before ng tryouts that I hardly had any sleep,” Abdilla said. “Finally after two years we’re back in the sand.”
Abdilla, a member of the silver medal-clinching men’s volleyball team in the 2019 SEA Games, said that earning a slot in the national beach volleyball team is not an easy picking.
“A player has to be disciplined, dedicated and committed to be part of the national team, those are the qualities coaches are looking at,” the 29-year-old Abdilla said.
“I’m blessed to be part of Creamline and I hope to boost its men’s beach volleyball program,” said the La Salle-Dasmariñas who was signed by the team in March.
