PRESIDENT Duterte appointed Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
In a statement on Wednesday, Presidential spokesman Harry Roque confirmed the new assignment of Eleazar, who is currently the deputy chief for administration of PNP as well as the chief Administrative Support for Covid-19 Task Force.
“General Eleazar’s track record of professionalism, dedication and integrity speaks for itself. We are therefore confident that he will continue the reform initiatives of his predecessors and lead the police organization to greater heights,” Roque said.
Eleazar will succeed PNP chief Debold Sinas, who retires on May 8, 2021.
Interior Secretary and National Police Commission (NPC) Chairman Eduardo Año earlier announced Duterte is expected to select the new PNP chief after they submitted their recommendation.
Eleazar is a member of Philippine Military Academy Hinirang Class 1987. His term is expected to last until November 13, 2021, when he is scheduled to retire from service.
