MANILA Rep. Manny” Lopez has secured funds for the construction of a housing project in Tondo that will benefit thousands of homeless and displaced families.
Lopez led on Thursday led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Vitas High Rise Residential Building on Mel Lopez Boulevard in Tondo, Manila.
The Vitas High Rise Residential Building is a two-phase development that will be built on a 3.5-hectare land.
The first phase will cover 9,183.56 square meters.
As programmed by the National Housing Authority, the first phase will have three 19-storey housing buildings that can accommodate 770 residential units.
Lopez said once completed, the Vitas High Rise Residential Building will stand as a legacy of President Rodrigo Duterte.
“This housing project in Tondo is the realization of ‘Pangakong Lopez.’ You know that it is not easy to get funding from the government but through my humble efforts, we were able to get this started amid the ongoing pandemic,” said Lopez.
He added, “This project will provide employment to Tondo residents who can be part of the construction. This is a great start in our efforts to rise again from the economic crisis brought by the pandemic.”
“Here in Tondo, which is the unfortunate symbol of poverty in Manila, we will rise as one with comfortable living. This is my dream for the residents of Tondo. And while we do the construction and on-site housing, I am also focusing on the cash rental subsidy for our Manila residents,” Lopez added.
The lawmaker said he is grateful to President Duterte for all his unwavering support to his poverty alleviation initiatives.
Lopez, a bonafide “Batang Maynila” belongs to the Lopez clan of Tondo.
