AMBASSADOR Huang Xilian of China turned over 2,000 Huawei tablets to the Department of Education (DepEd) through Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones in Malacañan Palace on February 2.
The handover of the items, the ambassador said, was China’s way of supporting the rollout of the blended distance learning modality of the Philippines.
“While the pandemic has brought severe challenges to traditional teaching methods, the donation is intended to help Philippine students overcome difficulties and get better access to distance learning resources,” Huang said.
“To the best of its ability, the Chinese Embassy will continue to support the education endeavors of the Philippines, and further implement the Chinese government scholarship and Chinese Ambassador scholarship projects.”
Magtolis Briones expressed her appreciation for the donation, and said it showcases the long-term valued friendship between China and the Philippines.
“[It] is a great support for the implementation of the blended distance learning modality of the Philippines [despite the ongoing health crisis],” Briones said, then disclosed that the “tablets will be distributed to schools in geographically isolated, disadvantaged and conflict-affected areas. The Philippines is also willing to learn from China’s successful experience in promoting online education.”
Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs and Chief of Presidential Protocol Robert Eric A. Borje, as well as Education Undersecretary Nepomuceno A. Malaluan graced the event.
