CLEAR, consistent and comfortable—these are the promises of Air Optix breathable contact lenses, a family of products that include Air Optix Colors, and clear lenses Air Optix Aqua, Air Optix plus HydraGlyde, and Air Optix Night and Day. All are manufactured by the Texas-based Alcon, the global leader in eye care.
On February 10, Air Optix Colors virtually launched the Gemstone Collection, a trio of colors such as Amethyst, True Sapphire and Turquoise. They are monthly-replacement lenses made with Alcon’s SmartShield Technology, which helps protect the lens from irritating deposits for consistent comfort, plus breathability for healthy-looking eyes for everyday wear or even for long-hour wear.
“Consumers are interested in color contact lenses even if they wear glasses or don’t need vision correction,” shares Dr. Jeanette Romualdez, Alcon’s professional affairs consultant. “Whether someone has dark or light eyes, Air Optix Colors offer a comfortable contact lens option to explore subtle or vibrant enhancements to eye color.”
The new lenses have Alcon’s unique three-in-one color technology. “The Proprietary 3-in-1 color technology blends with the eye color to provide a beautiful, natural appearance to enhance any eye color,” Romuladez explains. “The outer ring defines and emphasizes the iris, the primary color transforms the eye color, the inner ring brightens and adds depths.”
Alcon enlisted host and content creator Janeena Chan for the launch of the Gemstone Collection. “She is an AOC wearer ever since, so it was so natural for her to speak from her experience,” says Romualdez.
“I love the 3 new colors of @airoptixph’s Gemstone Collection! Especially now that my eyes are graded! They not only look great but are extra breathable on the eyes too! Perfect for Zoom events, and basically everything from work to play, especially in the new normal! With masks and face shields on, we gotta let our eyes do the talking,” gushed Janina on her Instagram.
“As a true color lover, I am excited to help Alcon launch the collection, offering people yet another way to express themselves and play up their look by enhancing their eyes with color during their virtual meetings and online activities,” adds Janeena. “Eye color allows us to amplify our personalities, tap into fashion and makeup trends and can be a powerful way to communicate.”
The trio of new colors are in addition to Gray, Blue, Green, Pure Hazel, Brown, Sterling Gray, Brilliant Blue, Gemstone Green and Honey.

I know the claims about this brand to be true and correct because I’ve been wearing them for the longest time, as recommended by eye-care professional, Dr. Cirila Salcedo, and Romualdez. I am a living testament to their mantra: “The breathable contact lenses let you focus on your life, not your contact lenses.”
Covid-19 has forced me to be extra careful, almost paranoid, in handling my contact lenses. I wash my hands thoroughly—obsessively—before removing them and before putting them on. As in this quarantine era I work from home and stare at computers all the time, or binge-watch films and TV series for hours, or read a book one after the other, taking great care of my eyes has become fundamental.
Romualdez provides some rules: “During this pandemic, we need to make sure we remember the three Bs. Breathe—by using breathable color contact lens like Air Optix Colors. Break—take breaks. 20/20/20, every 20 minutes, you rest for 20 seconds and look at something 20 feet away. Blink—we blink 10 to 15 times a minute. When we are too focused on what we do, we blink less and it puts us at a risk of having dry eyes.”
