Composed and produced by ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo, this alternative pop track tackles the Filipinos’s superhero acts to help others despite the many limitations of the current challenges and crises.
“We are all superhero by heart,” John said of his new single.
“Not Superman” deviates from his Pop genre which was evident in his 2019 single, ‘Think About It’ also produced by Star Music.
But it was another 2019 single which won John an award that year. He was recognized by the Philippine Movie Press Club with a PMPC Star Award for Folk/Country Recording of the Year for his debut album Star All Over Again which was also produced by Manalo for Star Music.
OPM aficionados would agree that the local music industry needs the musicality genius of one John Rendez. For one, he was behind the booty-grooving hot single “Everybody Sayaw.” He is also partly credited with Francis M’s chart-topping hit “Man from Manila.”
John’s 2001 released revivals collection, Crossroads featured songs like Cat Stevens’ “Father and Son.”
In 2013, his album MetalDog: There Can Only Be One got rave reviews for the pop and hip-hop fusion hfor his songs “Kembotan,” “Plastik Pala” and the title track.
The Star Music artist is also an actor having played various roles in movies such as “Sindak” (1999), “Madaling Mamatay, Mahirap Mabuhay” (1996), and “Whistleblower” (2016). It was in the later movie that he had the opportunity to work with her manager and dear friend, the country’s one and only Superstar Ms. Nora Aunor.
