TO reach out to more applicants, the Commission on Elections is now eyeing holding overtime registration.
In a radio interview on Monday, Comelec Commissioner Rowena V. Guanzon said she proposed to the Comelec en banc extending the registration time of their offices beyond 8 am to 3 pm.
She said this may be necessary, especially since they have less than a year of registration period.
“We will be having overtime since we already lack the time to reach out to our 3-million target,” Guanzon said.
As January 14, 2021, the poll body was able to register 1.17 million of the estimated 4 million eligible new voters come the 2022 national and local polls.
Aside from the overtime registration, Guanzon said they are also considering conducting barangay satellite registration in areas where there is zero transmission of Covid-19.
She noted many people may be waiting for the satellite registration to minimize their possible exposure from Covid-19.
The Comelec en banc is currently still considering both proposals, Guanzon said.
