BARELY two years after entering the Philippine market, realme has claimed the No. 1 spot in the country’s smartphone market recording a triple-digit growth in Q3 2020, according to reports from International market research firms Canalys, IDC and Counterpoint Research.
Despite the lockdown and the pandemic, realme Philippines successfully launched four smartphone lines this year: its premier X-series, the midranger number series, and the bang-for-buck narzo and C-series lines. The brand is also working vigorously on growing its AIoT and smart device portfolios, broadening the realme experience to deliver a well-rounded ecosystem.
Since everybody loves a winner, this second part of our gift guide brings together realme’s latest devices that can help you achieve your health goals, level up your listening experience, and a sonic toothbrush that has become one of my favorite devices of the year.
SONIC BOOM
IT’S funny how people with bad breath are often the last to know about their problem. But I’m pretty sure wearing that face mask has really been an eye-opener and finally given them all the proof they need.
Now raise your hand if you haven’t been able to go to the dentist since the lockdown. Me neither. I’ve already been feeling a bit dirty and paranoid, and though we are all wearing face masks now, I’ve been brushing and gargling like crazy, hoping that my teeth are still going to be okay by the time I reunite with my dentist.
So imagine my joy when I began using the realme M1 Sonic Electric Toothbrush.
I’ve tried electric toothbrushes a couple of times, but threw them away even before their batteries ran out because I wasn’t comfortable using it.
I initially had the same discomfort when I first used the M1. I thought my teeth were going to fall off or get loose because of all those vibrations. But after using it a few times, and got the hang of it, it was a totally different feeling. It was like I had doktora right there with me, doing the brushing herself smiling. Honestly, it was that good.
Unlike manual brushing, sonic toothbrushes have a moving brush head designed to more effectively remove plaque. Rather than performing the brushing action on your own, it does the brushing for you—all you need to do is move the toothbrush around your mouth, guiding it to reach all the surfaces of your teeth. The tech brand’s sonic toothbrush, however, is the flagship when it comes to personal cleaning. Compared to manual brushing where you get about 300 strokes per minute, and 2,500 to 7,500 strokes from electric toothbrushes, the realme Sonic Electric toothbrush is capable of 34,000 brushes per minute, giving it even more cleaning power.
The M1 Sonic Electric Toothbrush comes in the trademark realme yellow box, and looks like an ordinary toothbrush except for the big cylindrical handle. The overall build quality feels solid, comfortable to hold, and is actually lighter than it looks. You get an IPX7 water resistance so you don’t have to worry about submerging it in water, but it can be a bit slippery when wet though.
The brush consists of two parts—a detachable brush head and the bottom cylindrical part. You get two brush heads in the box, Regular and Sensitive; both have Dupont bristles which have 99.9 percent antibacterial properties. The handle features a big circular button to turn the toothbrush on/off and select the mode. You can choose from four cleaning modes; Soft for sensitive teeth; Clean for daily use; White for deep cleaning; and Polish for shining teeth.
Using it is pretty straightforward: just put on the brush head, apply the toothpaste, select the mode and brush away. It does tickle at first but after a few tries, you’ll get used to the cleaning vibrations.
The realme M1 Sonic Electric toothbrush is powered by an 800mAh battery, promises 90 days of battery life with twice a day use, and supports quick wireless charging.
Priced at P1,990, it may seem a bit expensive and realme has yet to announce the availability of replacement brush heads (as you may need to replace them every few months), but if you are planning to get a sonic toothbrush, the realme M1 is a nice option.
It may not be the toothbrush you need, but it’s the toothbrush your pearly whites deserve this Christmas.
SCALE UP YOUR CHANGE
I ONLY have to step in front of the mirror to know what an overweight mess I’ve become, and my weighing scale confirms it. Those two are such bad motivators.
If you are like me or know someone in search of some fitness inspiration, the realme Smart Scale might just be the gift you are looking for. This newest health monitor can help you achieve and maintain personal goals by providing a wide array of data for careful analysis and monitoring, including body fat, through its high-precision Bioimpedance Analysis (BIA) sensor. It sports an ultra-thin design with hidden LED display made of tempered glass material and powered by a long battery life of up to 360 days.
Connect it to the realme Link app and the real-time heart sensor, and the smart scale provides static heart rate information through a comprehensive health report for multiple profiles for every family member. The smart scale has 16 types of health measurement data including weight, fat rate, body shape, BMI, muscle mass, body age, visceral fat level, skeletal muscle, protein, fat mass and heart rate, among others.
Another feature I liked is its special small weight mode which can accurately measure the weight up to 10 grams for pets or other small items, so you can also check your pet’s weight journey.
PRO SOUND FOR LESS
THE realme Buds Air Pro brings incredible sound experience without the jarring price tag. It is the brand’s first truly wireless earbuds with active noise cancellation, and one of the most affordable pair of earbuds with this feature. It also offers 25-hour of battery life.
The design of the realme Buds Air Pro resembles the shape of a cobblestone, making it an artistic and ergonomic masterpiece that’s comfortable to wear for long periods of time. A single earphone weighs only 5g or 1 sheet of A4 size bond paper ensuring a comfortable feeling while wearing it.
Among its standout features include Bass Booster Plus, very intuitive and responsive touch functionality, and low latency which makes it a great choice for gamers as well as those who love to watch movies on their smartphones.
WATCH OUT
THOSE looking for a smart watch but want the looks of a traditional timepiece should check out the realme Watch S. The smartwatch comes with a circular design that’s made from an aluminum alloy and comes with 100 stylish watch faces to match your mood and OOTD. realme Design Studio collaborated with the famous Korean pop cultural artist Grafflex to bring his signature design elements to the realme Watch S.

The smart watch features include app notifications, call display, SMS and third-party app messages, phone unlock, control of music player on the smartphone, and also as remote shutter for your phone camera. The device comes with a 390mAh large battery for 15 days of continuous usage. It comes with a magnetic charging base that can fully charge the device in just two hours.
SAFER HOME
TAKE home protection to a new level with the realme Smart Cam 360⁰. Its 360⁰ panoramic vision and real-time tracking with voice talkback provide added security, functionality and all-around safety. The smart cam can be also accessed via the realme Link App. Its 24/7 coverage performance is ultra-clear thanks to infrared night vision, full color in low light, 3D noise cancelling and edge distortion correction features. Its AI detection monitor automatically sends alerts for any human body, voice or motion anomalies. It uses 1080p wide dynamic range and full HD video technology. The high-quality video technology of the realme smart cam allows users to have an extra layer of security with the quality coverage that the smart cam produces. The new generation of H.265 video encoding technology also makes the video playback smoother and faster and with AI video retrieval, it can automatically identify events.
