Ornithology books All the Birds of the World and Birds of the Philippines, published by Spanish natural history press Lynx Edicions, will be officially launched at the online Manila International Book Fair at 10:00-11:00am on November 27, 2020 via Facebook Live. Lynx Edicions co-founder Dr. Josep del Hoyo will give the opening remarks for the event which will also have ornithologists, scientists, and other special guests as speakers.
The cover of All the Birds of the World features the iconic Philippine Eagle photograph “Ang Banog” taken by acclaimed Filipino wild bird photographer Alain Pascua. Taken in 2010 at the Philippine Eagle Center in Davao City, the mesmerizing photograph has since garnered international attention and various accolades for its remarkable rarity and strong conservationist message. It has been exhibited at the Wild Bird Photography Exhibit in 2012 and Manila FAME in 2013, and was adopted by the Zoological Society of London’s global conservation initiative EDGE of Existence programme as its graphic image in 2014.
Fittingly, All the Birds of the World is a fully-illustrated volume featuring the diversity of birds around the world, complete with information about nomenclature discrepancies, location, and distinctive subspecies. It was designed as an engaging, easy-to-use reference that both casual nature enthusiasts and bird experts will appreciate.
Alongside its release is the guidebook Birds of the Philippines which celebrates both the endemic and migratory birds found across the country’s 7,100 islands. Authored by ornithologist Desmond Allen, the book features colorful illustrations of the Philippines’ most sought-after species like the Palawan Peacock-Pheasant and the regal Philippine Eagle, as well as an array of pigeons, owls, hornbills, among others. Importantly, the book includes the local conservation status of each species to raise awareness about biodiversity in the country.
Limited copies of All the Birds of the World and Birds of the Philippines will be available at exclusive discounts through Haring Ibon-Birds in Focus at the 2020 Manila International Online Book Fair.
