To help the survivors of typhoons Rolly and Ulysses across Luzon, our local artist community has joined hands in support of Awit sa Pag-Ahon, a music and arts movement that aims to raise not only cash and in-kind donations, but also awareness about our fellow Filipinos’ situation.
Awit sa Pag-Ahon has already managed to raise 60,000 PhP in cash donations as of November 21 through a simultaneous string of virtual fundraising events over the past two weeks featuring over 100 artists. Its main event also culminated last November 20 with 7K Sounds’ special episode hosted by Gretchen Ho, LA Santos, and Iman Franchesca, with the special participation of Hon. Cong. Vilma Santos-Recto, who expressed how proud she was of the artists who are using their platform to bring awareness and to extend help to those in need. With that in mind, she left an inspiring message for the communities that are still hoping for aid.
“Don’t lose hope. Alam kong dumadaan tayo sa pagsubok ngayon, pero marami pa ring hand pong tumulong sa inyo. Nandirito pa rin kami. … Hindi susukuan ‘yan ang pagtulong at pagbibigay ng care sa para sa kapwa.” She then followed up by addressing the artists who were also gravely affected by reminding them not to lose hope. “Huwag kayong mawawalan ng pag-asa. Hindi po namin kayo nakakalimutan. Don’t worry, we are here.”
The fundraiser was then filled with special performances by some of OPM’s greatest, such as Itchyworms, Sheryn Regis, Robin Nievera, Nicole Asensio, LA Santos, Chickoy Pura, Menon, and Talahib.
To start its series of relief operations, the Awit sa Pag-Ahon team visited Brgy. Malanday in Marikina City last November 22 with the assistance of District 1 Councilor Carl Africa and #PagmamahalPalagi. Here, over 500 residents were served with food, medicine, and cleaning kits packed with bottles of all-purpose cleaner, liquid bleach, liquid laundry detergent, and dishwashing liquid to help them in cleaning their flood and mud-stricken homes and belongings. This will be followed by relief operations in Bicol and Cagayan regions by early December.
The local artist community calls upon your support to the cause by catching its upcoming virtual fundraisers and extending your help through cash and in-kind donations until November 30:
