Formed only this year, reon (stylized as all lowercase) is a duo composed of singer-songwriters Noah Glynn Alejandre and Reanne Julia Borela.
According to them, they got their name from Kanji characters (麗音) that mean “beautiful” and “sound” and describe their music as bedroom pop.
Preferring to keep things simple and raw, reon has been releasing singles since the start of the year. With 10 songs on Spotify alone, the duo enjoys a pretty solid following on the popular music streaming platform and currently has over 31,000 monthly listeners.
Recently, the duo was also among the early qualifiers of this year’s edition of the of the PhilPop Songwriting Festival with their song, “Suyo,” now also available for streaming.
For their SoundStrip Live Online performance, reon is performing their biggest hit to date, a bouncy pop ditty called “I Really Like You” which has already garnered over 300,000 streams on Spotify.
According to Reanne, the song, taken from a female perspective, is about taking risks in the name of love and depicts a girl who confesses his affection to a boy she likes. “They say you never lose by loving. You only lose by holding back,” she further pointed out.
The PhilPop Songwriting Festival 2020 is an initiative of the PhilPop Music Foundation, chaired by Manny V. Pangilinan. This year’s PhilPop is co-presented by SMART, MERALCO, and MAYNILAD, with official partners, Warner Music Philippines, Kadasig and MinPop. Finals night is happening this November 14.
