PHOENIX Super LPG found another scorer in power forward Jason Perkins to cruise to back-to-back wins via a 110-105 victory over Northport on Thursday in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup at the Angeles University Foundation gym in Pampanga.
Perkins tallied a career-high 31 points on 12-of-18 shooting from field—including four three-pointers—and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Matthew Wright came out with an all-around performance of 23 points, seven rebounds and nine assists to help the Fuel Masters a 2-0 win-loss record.
“I am not really focusing on my stats nor I’m sure my teammates, too. We are just focused on moving the ball around,” Perkins told BusinessMirror upon arrival in his room at the Quest Hotel. “We are just passing the ball and playing unselfish basketball, playing the game how is supposed to play the game,”
“We are just happy to play basketball again,” added Perkins, who canned two free throws in the last 12 seconds for Phoenix’s 108-104 lead which the Batang Pier failed to overcome.
Justin Chua and RJ Jazul added 17 and 10 points, respectively, for the Fuel Masters, who still missed the services of the still suspended Calvin Abueva.
Christian Standhardinger scored 28 points and had 11 rebounds and five assists, while Sean Anthony registered a triple-double of 23 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists for the Batang Pier.
NorthPort fell to 0-2.
