The total number of Covid-19 cases in the country surged to 329,637 after 2,825 newly-confirmed infections were logged on Wednesday.
The Department of Health (DOH) said of the confirmed cases, 49,989 (15.2 percent), are active cases, 273,723 (83.0 percent) have recovered and 5,925 (1.8 percent)
have died.
The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were National Capital Region (746 or 33 percent), Region 4A (627 or 28 percent), and Region 3 (211 or 9 percent).
There 437 recoveries and 60 deaths recorded.
Meanwhile, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said they are expecting clinical trials for the Japanese anti-flu drug Avigan to start this week.
Vergeire said the DOH and the University of the Philippines (UP) already signed the clinical trial agreement.
There are 100 Covid patients who will undergo trials that will last nine months, which will be conducted in the Philippine General Hospital, Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital, Quirino Memorial Medical Center, and Sta. Ana Hospital.
