In its Labor Advisory (LA) No. 22, series of 2020, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said a “no work, no pay” scheme will take effect on Aug. 21, 2020, Ninoy Aquino Day, which was declared by President Rodrigo R. Duterte a special non-working holiday.
The event commemorates the assassination of former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino. His death was among the factors that led to the EDSA People Power Revolution.
Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III said employees who will work during the holiday will get an additional 30 percent of their basic wage.
If they will work overtime, they will get another 30 percent of their hourly rate on the said day and another 50 percent of their basic wage if the holiday coincides with their day-off.
DOLE reminded establishments to comply with the said pay rules to avoid sanctions as well as boost the productivity of their employees.
