Art classes are beneficial for the development of cognitive functions such as imagination, creativity, motor and analyzing skills. The activities in art classes lessen depression, anxiety and boredom—concerns that are prevalent at this time of the pandemic.
Seniors and non-seniors have the opportunity to learn the art of watercolor painting as Sunshine Place opens its online workshops. The series of workshop is good for participants ages 11 and above. The online workshops on watercolor painting consist of four three-hour workshops with the first workshop focusing on basic watercolor painting lessons. The succeeding three classes are water color workshops painting specific floral subjects using different brushes.
The floral subjects bring to mind Mexican artist Frida Kahlo’s famous quote “I paint flowers so they will not die.”
In Watercolor Floral Painting Basics, participants will learn basic watercolor brush strokes in creating floral wreaths. They will mix colors for flowers and petals, and paint a foliage that goes with any floral wreath. Workshop schedule is on Saturday, 22 August 2020 from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. Deadline of enrollment is on 17 August 2020.
Next in the workshop series is Roses, Hydrangeas and Peonies where enrollees learn the strokes and how to use triangle/dagger brush in painting these three flowers. Work schedule is on Saturday, 29 August 2020 from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. Deadline of enrollment is on 24 August 2020.
A Bouquet of Dahlias is the third workshop series. Focus of the watercolor painting workshop are dahlia flowers. Participants will learn how to paint a beautiful bouquet of dahlias using the cat’s tongue brush. Schedule of workshop is on Saturday, 12 September 2020 from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. Deadline of enrollment is on 7 September 2020.
