Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire clarified on Friday that the Department of Health (DOH) is not endorsing any brand when they issued the specifications and the suggested retail price (SRP) of face shields.
“As long as it serves its purpose and that is to protect you,” Vergeire said during the online media forum.
Vergeire made the clarification after being informed that a picture of a certain brand of face shield was reportedly approved by the DOH for the people to use.
On August 10, the DOH issued the department memorandum 2020-0345, stating that technical specifications face shields include: clear plastic or acetate material, provides good visibility, fog resistant, adjustable band to attach firmly around the head, and fits snugly against the forehead.
The face shield, she stressed, should be made of robust material that can be easily cleaned and disinfected, and disposable or reusable and that it should cover the face.
Vergeire their memorandum, “is not a brand specific, it will serve as a guide for the general public on what face shield to use.”
For the consumers not to be fooled of the price, the DOH said that the SRP of face shield is set at P26 -P50.
A 10 percent allowable variation to the SRP, according to the memorandum, may be added to account for the distribution cost for areas in Visayas and Mindanao areas.
