THE country has logged the new highest single-day increase in new cases on Saturday at 4,963, bringing the total number of infections to 98,232 based on the total tests done in 74 out of 94 current operational laboratories nationwide.
As of 4 p.m. of August 1, the Department of Health (DOH) also recorded 93 recoveries. The total recoveries are now at 65,265, it said.
Of the 4,963 additional cases reported today, 4,841 (98 percent) occurred in July and 3,981 (80 percent) cases occurred within the recent 14 days (July 19 to August 1).
The top regions with cases within the recent 14 days were NCR (2,087 or 52 percent of total), Region 4A (959 or 24 percent) and Region 7 (223 or 6 percent).
Seventeen deaths were recorded. The death toll stood at 2,039.
Of the 17 deaths, 13 (76 percent) happened in July and 4 (24 percent) in June.
Five deaths were from National Capital Region or 29 percent, Region 4A (5 or 29 percent) Region 7 (4 or 24 percent) Region 1 (2 or 12 percent) and Region 9 (1 or 6 percent).
There were 85 duplicates that were removed from the total case count. Of these, six recovered cases and one death have been removed.
The DOH said that these numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation.
