As part of BusinessMirror’s campaign to promote everyone’s safety and well-being during the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have invited established and independent artists to perform at least one song in their own homes while urging everyone to stay indoors.
Scarlet Gum is a newly-formed electronic-folk/synth-pop group led by Sheryl and Ted Reyes in May 2020.
Two months later, on July 17 to be exact, the band is releasing its debut single, “Tulips and Twigs for a Boy.” Now available on all major streaming services, Sheryl says the song, which they are also performing for SoundStrip Live & in Quarantine is about “seizing the moment in the name of love that is either reciprocated or not, a romantic idea that explores how time stands still when two particles collide in one form or another.”
In Scarlet Gum, Sheryl is the lead singer and guitar player, while Ted handles all the electronic music aspects of the group. An interesting combination of the warm and profound sensibilities of acoustic folk and the cold, structured elements of synths and drum machines.
The group is currently in the studio producing a few more singles and then a full album, scheduled for a late 2020 release.
