The number of permanently displaced workers in the private sector in Metro Manila seeking unemployment benefits has now doubled to 30,000 since last month.
In a news statement, the Department of Labor and Employment-National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR) said it has already registered 30,157 request for Certificate of Involuntary Separation (CIS) as of July 1, 2020.
This was twice the number of 15,000 CIS applicants a month earlier.
CIS is a requirement of the Social Security System (SSS) before it could process the unemployment benefit of its members.
“Of the total number, DOLE-NCR had already approved and released 16,436 certifications—15,536 were requests from workers that were involuntarily separated by locally based employers while 900 were from OFWs [overseas Filipino workers],” DOLE-NCR said.
More employees are still expected to apply for CIS in NCR after DOLE reported the number of displacement in the region has already reached 50,696 as of July 13, 2020 amid the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.
DOLE-NCR said another 6,000 CIS applications are currently under evaluation and validation process.
For other workers who will be applying for their CIS, DOLE-NCR said they should provide one valid ID and a copy of the Notice of Termination (NOT) issued by the employer for the process.
Those who will have no NOT must submit a duly notarized Affidavit of Termination of Employment to DOLE Field or Provincial Office or Philippine Overseas Labor Office.
To ease the CIS application process, DOLE-NCR adapted the online submission of DOLE certification request through their official website at https://ncr.dole.gov.ph or the official website of DOLE.
