Another 8,000 locally stranded individuals (LSI) were recently sent home by the government.
In its report of President Rodrigo R. Duterte, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said of the said LSIs, 4,180 were transported to their hometowns during the weekend via buses, ship and train.
They were sent to the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley Region, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Zamboanga Peninsula Region, and Soccsksargen.
The other 3,820 were sent home via plan and ship on Monday and Tuesday.
Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said there are currently 1,476 other LSIs, which they are providing food accommodations in Metro Manila as they wait for their transportation.
“These are the ones who have tickets and were stranded,” Año said.
LSIs are those people in Metro Manila, who are bound for the provinces, but are unable to travel due to the unavailability of their transportation or travel restrictions implemented by some local government units (LGU).
Aside from LSI, Año also gave updates on the charges they filed against local government officials, who allegedly misused the funds for the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
He noted they already filed administrative cases to 182 erring barangay officials before the Ombudsman.
Año said they also filed criminal cases against 195 government officials also for the same violations.
