A total of 2,379 repatriated overseas Filipino workers ( OFWs ) have contracted the Covid-19 as of July 1, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Thursday.
The DOH also said that most of the cases in some of the emerging hotspots in areas in Mindanao are from returning OFWs and of Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs).
These areas include Region 10 (Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental), Region 11 (Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental), Region 12 (South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat), and Maguindanao within BARMM.
“Our current data shows that there are 2 new cases in Bukidnon, 2 from Lanao, and 3 from Misamis occidental. Most of our cases now particularly from these provinces are ROFWs/LSI,” the DOH said.
During the DOH Beat Covid televised press conference, as of July 1, 2020 based on Covid- 19 response report #92, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that there are 2,379 confirmed cases upon arriving; 1,690 cases recovered and 1 case died.
“However upon verification, our data collection does not provide the specific country of origin of every individual and only tags the country of origin per batch and as a whole. Regardless of the origin country the health protocol to be followed is the same for all,” Vergeire said.
Covid cases
As of 4 p.m. July 02, the DOH reported that the total number of Covid-19 cases rose to 38,805.
A total of 294 additional cases were logged. Of this, 52 fresh cases were detected, 242 were validated as late cases. Thursday’s fresh cases are based on the daily accomplishment reports submitted by only 51 out of 72 current operational labs.
DOH also recorded 235 recoveries and for deaths.
This brings the total number of recoveries to 10,673 and 1,274 deaths.
The DOH said that all deaths occurred in June.
“The decrease in additional cases reported may be due to the change in data extraction time,” Vergeire said.
