The Commission on Election (Comelec) on Tuesday said it is now in the process of “refining” its health protocols for the expected resumption of voter registration in September.
“We are continuously refining our guidelines and health and safety protocols so that we do not contribute to the further spread of the virus,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in a statement.
The preparations includes the setting up of necessary implements in registration centers to ensure social distancing as well as procurement of needed supplies to protect Comelec personnel from Covid-19 infection.
Also starting on July 3, 2020, Comelec said there will be no more transaction in its Main office at the Palacio del Gobernador in Intramuros, Manila every Friday to give way to weekly disinfection of the said facility.
He said the same measure will be implemented in the Offices of the Regional Election Director (ORED) of the National Capital Region (NCR), Regions 4-A and 4-B.
“In light of this, we would like to assure the public that the delivery of services will not be hampered as we do our part in preventing further spread of the virus,” Jimenez said.
Jimenez issued the statement amid the existing state of national emergency because of the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
Because of the threat of Covid-19, Comelec already reset the date of the resumption of voter registration for the third time this year.
The activity was supposed to have resumed on March 31 before it was moved to April 30, and then to June 30.
The voter registration period for the May 2022 elections is from Jan. 2020 to Sept. 31, 2021.
