The DOH likewise announced that there were 255 and eight reported deaths.
The total number of recoveries logged were 8,910 and 1,212 deaths. Of the 8 reported deaths, all occurred in June (June 01-21, 2020).
“Four duplicates were also removed from total case count. The total cases reported may be subject to change as these numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation,” the DOH said.
Spike in the number of cases
During the DOH Beat Covid televised press conference, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the spike in the number of cases can be attributed to the increase in the number of daily testing and the gradual ease of community restrictions.
“Our recent data shows that the healthcare system is coping, however we are mindful of the emerging hotspots in regions outside National Capital Region. The Department sternly reminds the public to not be complacent and to constantly observe the safety protocols issued,” Vergeire said, replying to the question of BusinessMirror when asked whether they see public behavior, despite consistent reminder to maintain the observance of minimum health standards, as the problem in the cases that is soaring or is there a need for aggressive enforcement for Covid-19 rules.
Vergeire assured that the government is committed, with the support of the private sector, to emphasize, across all available platforms, on every Filipino that “our preventive measures by reminding everyone that our safety is all on our hands.”
“We have to be the solution,” Vergeire reiterated.
