As part of BusinessMirror’s campaign to promote everyone’s safety and well-being during the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have invited established and independent artists to perform at least one song in their own homes while urging everyone to stay indoors.
Formed in May 2018, Pasada is a band that combines traditional Filipino musical instruments with contemporary style and innovation. It embraces positivity in storytelling; drawing inspiration from people’s lives and aspirations, sharing them through music.
Pasada is Pia Pimentel (lead vocals), Noel Taylo (acoustic guitar, bamboo jaw harp/kubing, vocals), Mark Estandarte (bass guitar), Peter Panelo (drums), Arthur Cadungon (percussions, vocals), Ringgo Onggir (percussions, vocals), and Bogs Paterno (electric guitar, hegalong).
Pasada released their debut single “Bagong Komunidad” in 2018. The band has also recorded a version of “Manggagawa at Magbubukid” for the First Quarter Storm Movement 50th-year commemoration album. A studio album is currently in production.
For their SoundStrip Live & in Quarantine session, the band is performing “Bathala,” a song Taylo wrote way back in 1991. Pimentel says the song is about the plight of indigenous people and how their natural homes are being abused. The band said it is everyone’s duty and responsibility to protect our culture so we can also protect our environment.
