The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday assured the public that it is ready to provide the needed medical assistance to patients with diseases associated with the rainy season even as it continues to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We have Covid and non-Covid wards in any case,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a virtual media forum with health reporters as she expressed readiness on yet another threat- dengue and other common diseases during rainy days.
With this, the DOH has renewed its call to the public to prevent dengue by implementing the enhanced 4-S strategy in their households.
“Search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites, Self-protection measures like wearing long pants and long sleeved shirts and daily use of mosquito repellent, Seek early consultation, and Support fogging/spraying only in hotspot areas where increase in cases is registered for two consecutive weeks to prevent an impending outbreak,” the DOH said.
Other common diseases during the rainy season include diarrhea, water-borne diseases such as typhoid fever, cholera, leptospirosis and malaria.
Covid count
Meanwhile, Vergeire reported during the DOH Beat Covid televised press conference that as of 4 p.m. on June 9, 2020, the number of Covid-19 cases rose to 22,992.
Of the 518 confirmed cases on Tuesday, 280 were “fresh” cases while 238 were detected as “late” cases. The Tuesday’s fresh cases are based on the daily accomplishment reports submitted by only 38 out of 46 current operational labs. No mention of late cases.
The DOH also recorded a total number of 99 recoveries. This brings the total number of recoveries to 4,736.
Six deaths were logged. The death toll stood at 1, 017.
