As part of BusinessMirror’s campaign to promote everyone’s safety and well-being during the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have invited established and independent artists to perform at least one song in their own homes while urging everyone to stay indoors.
Since migrating to the US with his family in 2015, Buwi Meneses has continued to make music as bassist for hire and as tour manager even as he took on different jobs in between gigs.
Even as Buwi remains an integral part of Parokya ni Edgar and still contributes to the band’s recording sessions, he also found himself collaborating with other Filipino artists who have either visited migrated to Los Angeles or just performing for a limited engagement, including Paco Arespacochaga of Introvoys, Julz Savard of Save Me Hollywood, Melody del Mundo of Sugar Hiccup and Nino Mendoza of the Blue Jean Junkies.
He also hooked up with Robin Nievera, son of Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez, who is now also based in L.A. as well as American drummer Max Cogert. Together, they backed-up Nino Mendoza for his Blue Jean Junkies US bar tour.
“At rehearsals and during the gig at Wish Bus Hollywood, our vibe was lit and we decided that we want to make music together again soon,” Buwi told SoundStrip in recalling his chemistry with Robin and Max.
“Robin is such a well-rounded young musician whose so fun and easy to work with. Max is a young talented drummer I had the pleasure to work with on my American band Space Diaries.”
Now as the Robin, Buwi & Max Trio, the band has crafted several rock instrumentals and is working on writing songs with vocals as well.
One of those power instrumentals is making its world premiere on SoundStrip Live & in Quarantine as Robin, Buwi and Max electrify with “Panic.” But this is not a one-off jam for the talented trio. Expect to hear more, a lot more, from the Robin, Buwi & Max Trio in the days to come.
“We have another track already and sooner or later we plan to make an album as well and try gigging out here in the US. We do hope we could find our niche on the local LA music scene and see where it takes us. It’s just all about the vibes and passion to play for different people,” Buwi enthused.
