As part of BusinessMirror’s campaign to promote everyone’s safety and well-being during the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have invited established and independent artists to perform at least one song in their own homes while urging everyone to stay indoors.
Not November is a solo project by Novie Grace Jayme, a singer-songwriter with a passion for writing romantic comedy and advocacy songs. She is the musical director of Dulaang UP Baguio, grand champion of the launching of the songwriting category of the Vision Petron National Art Competition in 2016 and a sponsored fellow in the 2019 PhilPop Bootcamp in Lingayen, Pangasinan.
Novie enjoys finding new stories and concepts to write songs about. She recently signed up with RCube, an independent label, and is set to release her debut album this year.
For her SoundStrip Live & in Quarantine session, Novie is armed with her smiling ukulele for her performance of “Maybe Tomorrow,” a song she wrote about lovers apart because of quarantine.
“The song focuses on the struggles of being alone, the restlessness, nostalgia, and longing, but ultimately, the hope and promise that with each new day the quarantine comes to a close, assuring her of her reunion with her lover,” she further explained in an interview with SoundStrip.
With hints of reggae and calypso, “Maybe Tomorrow” has the quirky feel of a song one may likely hear in an island paradise setting. But regardless of where it’s played, the song is a welcome breath of fresh air in these particularly trying times. And Novie Grace, Not November or any other name she wants her music to be credited as, is certainly one of the more exciting voices we’d like to hear more from in the days to come.
