As part of BusinessMirror’s campaign to promote everyone’s safety and well-being during the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have invited established and independent artists to perform at least one song in their own homes while urging everyone to stay indoors.
Steph Martell is a Filipino-American singer/songwriter based in the Philippines. Steph cultivated a passion for music at an early age, as home videos of her self-taught ukulele songs will attest.
Only in her teens, Steph attended the Philpop Bandcamp in Lingayen, Pangasinan and the Philippine Educational Theater Association’s (PETA) musical theatre in their latest production. She is presently engaged in a songwriting collaborative facilitated by the accomplished jazz artist Eleanor Dubinsky out of New York City. She will soon release her debut album.
For her SoundStrip Live & in Quarantine session, Steph is sharing an acoustic rendition of “5161,” a song she wrote before the COVID-pandemic. She said the engaging ditty with its country vibe and yodeling-like delivery is about “missing someone distant, a thought we can relate to now with stay-at-home orders in place.”
“The tune resonates with an insistence of melancholy, realizing that there is something you want to come true but you know never will,” she further elaborated.
