As part of BusinessMirror’s campaign to promote everyone’s safety and well-being during the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have invited established and independent artists to perform at least one song in their own homes while urging everyone to stay indoors.
On Spotify, Issa Rodriguez’s profile simply reads as: “She’s the timid, quiet girl you see in a corner café writing down her tunes. Laid back and relaxed, she has that urban and soulful sound and a voice to match.”
The usually reserved, unassuming but very prolific singer-songwriter from Taguig is one of OPM’s best kept secrets. On the strength of songs like “Tuliro,” “Fragile,” “Tahimik” and “Down The Aisle,” Issa has been quietly making her presence felt and now enjoys a very solid following of nearly 67,000 monthly listeners on Spotify alone.
Gracing this edition of SoundStrip Lve & in Quarantine, Issa chooses to perform her 2018 hit, “Diwn The Aisle,” a song that she wrote for her “future husband.” Not that she expects to tie the knot anytime soon as she’s not even engaged, she reveals. Just the same, the song, which she describes as a “vow,” imagines what it’s like to finally walk down the aisle and see the person she will spend the rest of her life with.
With everyone having no choice but to adjust to what is now referred to as “The New Normal,” Issa may have to re-imagine her dream wedding scenario. Or maybe not if she waits a little longer and things do manage to return to the pre-pandemic “old normal” that everyone is accustomed to.
