As part of BusinessMirror’s campaign to promote everyone’s safety and well-being during the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have invited established and independent artists to perform at least one song in their own homes while urging everyone to stay indoors.
With a garage rock style reminiscent of the Rolling Stones, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, the Faces and the Ramones and as typified by songs like “Better Let Loose,” “Fine Company,” “Destination” and “DJ Jam,” it’s easy to imagine why the Blue Jean Junkies are considered as one of the most exciting bands to emerge over the last 20 years.
And a big reason why is the band’s driving force and charismatic frontman Nino Mendoza who graces this edition of SoundStrip Live & in Quarantine with a riveting perfornance of his band’s 2018 single, “Fun House.” But Nino, who also plays acoustic and electric guitar on the tune is joined by Buwi Meneses o Parokya ni Edgar and formerly with Franco, on bass.
Buwi has been based in Los Angeles since 2015 but thanks to modern technology, not even distance nor this dreaded pandemic and subsequent lockdown, for that matter, can prevent him and Nino from collaborating on this perfomance-level video edited by Dolero.
As for his choice of song, Nino says the roof-raising “Fun House” is simply “about having a good time and living life on life’s terms such as this quarantine, and just making the best out of it.”
Nino and Buwi are not the only ones making the best out of the situation. Expect more surprise collaborations on SoundStrip Live & in Quarantine soon.
