As part of BusinessMirror’s campaign to promote everyone’s safety and well-being during the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have invited established and independent artists to perform at least one song in their own homes while urging everyone to stay indoors.
Veronica and I are an alternative pop duo composed of Michael Ducusin and Veronica Macato.
Veronica is a singer-songwriter who has a corporate day job but has been passionate about music since her glee club days in high school which led to subsequent stints with several bands. Michael is a child of the 80s and considers himself heavily influenced by pop and new wave music. He has been playing guitar since high school and since the 90s, has been collaborating with numerous musicians. One of his most recent gigs was as a session player for Farrington+Mann (the original members of When In Rome UK) at the Back To The 80s New Wave Festival that took place at The Cove Manila in Okada Mania last year.
The real-life couple then went on to form Veronica and I in 2013 and since then has began to make an impact with songs like “New Day” and “Elope.” Both songs are known for their jingle-jangle, upbeat tone that recalls the sound of the popular Swedish band, The Cardigans who scored a string of hits during the 1990s.
Veronica says “Elope” which she and Michael are performing for SoundStrip Live & in Quarantine, is inspired by young love. In these trying times, a little kilig and hugot may just be what some young people need, even if it’s not advisable to elope under the circumstances.
