As part of BusinessMirror’s campaign to promote everyone’s safety and well-being during the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have invited established and independent artists to perform at least one song in their own homes while urging everyone to stay indoors.
Hey Moonshine is an eight-piece rock and roll band that has been around for about four years now.
The band is composed of professionals by day, lawyer Carlo Ybanez (bass player); Angela Rivera (backup vocals) a medical doctor; Gian Sison (lead vocals), a fulltime chef; Bryan Gatmaitan (guitars) and Aris Sison (guitars) who are both engineers; journalist Athena Sayaman (guitars and backing vocals); Shaun Hilario (drums) a teacher; and Ton Gregorio (guitars), a graphic artist. Their music is a hybrid of Southern rock, blues, and good old fashioned rock n’ roll.
For their SoundStrip Live & in Quarantine session, the band chose to perform their latest single, “Wicked Man.” As explained by Gian, the song is about the abuse inflicted by people against the environment also known as Mother Nature.
“When Mother Nature is constantly abused, neglected and mistreated, she has no alternative but to fight back. To her, we are all wicked men,” Gian further elaborated. Soundwise, “Wicked Man” is very old school rock, with at least three guitar layers, a harmonica solo and gospel-like backup vocals.
“Wicked Man” is already Hey Moonshine’s third single release under Viva Records this year, after “We’ll Break This War” and “Ilang Beses,” all of which can be streamed on Spotify and other digital stores.
