As part of BusinessMirror’s campaign to promote everyone’s safety and well-being during the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have invited established and independent artists to perform at least one song in their own homes while urging everyone to stay indoors.
Formed in 2010, it didn’t take long for Mr. Bones and the Boneyard Circus to make their presence felt with their horror-inspired theatrics and unique sound that fuses heavy metal, psychobilly and everything in between. By 2013, the band stood head and shoulders above every other competing band to win the Jack Daniel’s The Chosen One battle of the bands competition and subsequently represented the Philippines in the JD Set Southeast Asian event in Cambodia.
The band continued to make a strong impact when they provided the soundtrack music for the acclaimed action film, Maria starring Cristine Reyes and directed by Pedring Lopez who went on to direct their music video for “Take Me Down,” the carrier single for their 2019 album, The Grand Phantasma.
From that album, Mr. Bones and the Boneyard Circus rock SoundStrip Live & in Quarantine with “Sanctuary,” a song originally written for the fashion website of Samantha Richelle, sister of frontman Bones Frankenstein.
Guitarist Karl Kliatchko created a slow electronic beat for Sam that caught Bones’ attention. This inspired Bones to write lyrics for his daughter and his partner. Karl’s beat and Bones’ lyrics later became the basis for Sanctuary.
Bones said “Sanctuary” is a song for “those who need refuge and find it with the ones they love.” “In these times where so many people are isolated, we hope this song provides comfort in the fact that each of us has our very own sanctuary,” Bones further explained.
Mr. Bones and the Boneyard Circus is also composed of “Doc” Alvin Chan on guitars, Paige Buan on bass, Karl “Wolf” Vito Cruz on keyboards, Aldreen Alcantara on drums and Xombie on backing vocals.
