As part of BusinessMirror’s campaign to promote everyone’s safety and well-being during the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have invited established and independent artists to perform at least one song in their own homes while urging everyone to stay indoors.
LVNA (pronounced Luna) was originally developed during the early 1990s as the musical arm of a progressive visual arts group called Lupon ng Nagkakaisang Artista. During earlier years, LVNA as a band became a medium for self-expression and took positions on the nation’s social issues.
Now an indie band, the three-piece unit which consists of Jet Cunanan on guitars and vocals, Bong Torres on bass and Otep Estallo on drums, was able to forge their signature sound driven by innovative guitar textures, stories, expression, and musical influences that included U2, The Cure, The Police, The Clash and the Ramones.
The band opted to go acoustic for their SoundStrip Live & in Quarantine session with the bluesy, mid-tempo rocker, “Closer To Home” that features only Jet and Bong. Jet says the song presents ” a post-apocalyptic scenario brought about by a nuclear war, a catastrophic event or maybe by a pandemic like what we’re striuggling against now.”
For all its depiction of a rather bleak future, the song concludes in an optimistic tone and after all is said and done, is still essentially about “finding our way home.”
